Who Is a Candidate for Mohs Surhery?
Mohs Micrographic Surgery is recommended for patients with certain types of skin cancer where complete removal of the tumour and preservation of healthy tissue are equally important. It is considered the gold standard for treating many high-risk or cosmetically sensitive skin cancers.
You may be a good candidate for Mohs Surgery if you have:

The Procedure
Mohs Micrographic Surgery is the most precise and effective surgical technique for treating many types of skin cancer, particularly those occurring on the face and other cosmetically sensitive areas. The procedure is designed to completely remove cancerous tissue while preserving as much healthy skin as possible.
During the procedure, the visible skin cancer is carefully removed along with a very thin layer of surrounding tissue. This tissue is immediately processed and examined under a microscope to determine whether any cancer cells remain at the margins. If cancer cells are detected, only the affected area is removed, preserving healthy tissue. This process is repeated layer by layer until the margins are completely free of cancer.
Because each tissue layer is examined during the procedure, Mohs Surgery offers the highest level of accuracy available in skin cancer treatment. Once the cancer has been fully removed, the wound is carefully reconstructed using the most appropriate technique to achieve the best possible functional and cosmetic outcome. Depending on the size and location of the surgical site, reconstruction may involve direct closure, a skin flap, or a skin graft.
The procedure is performed under local anaesthesia on an outpatient basis, allowing most patients to return home the same day.
